PCR stands for Post-Consumer Recycled plastic or Post-Consumer Resin. PCR plastic is, basically, just recycled plastic. Plastic used in the manufacturing of PCR is reprocessed, giving it a second life and reducing the need for new plastic. PCR plastics are less wasteful to produce than new “virgin” plastics. They also help to reduce the amount of plastic waste that is ending up in landfills and oceans. Making these bottles actually serves to remove plastics from the environment, and increase the demand for more robust recycling facilities.  Using recycled PET plastics is a large part of our efforts to make sustainable habits easy and accessible to all.

In 2018, only 8.7% of the plastic that was discarded in the U.S. was recycled, meaning the rest was landfilled,  incinerated, or ended up in the ocean. The amount of plastic waste that ends up in the ocean per year is devastating to marine life, and we wanted to work to combat that as much as possible. Ocean-bound plastic is defined as plastic waste with a high risk of ending up in the ocean, as it’s found within 50km of the water. By using ocean-bound plastic, we’re helping make our beaches that much cleaner.
